Pelion is one of the most beautiful mountains in Greece, as it manages to harmoniously combine the rich vegetation of its forests with the endless blue of the sea, composing a dreamy landscape. According to Greek mythology, it was the homeland of the Centaurs, mythical creatures with the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse, as well as the summer residence of Olympian Gods. Far from the noise of the city center, it is the ideal destination for those who want to escape from their daily routine enjoying the majesty of nature.
Pelion is widely known for its 24 picturesque villages, where many characteristic buildings of the unique Pelion traditional architecture can be found. The visitor has the chance to walk through the cobbled streets, admire a variety of sights of historical importance (traditional mansions, Byzantine churches, museums, monuments) and natural beauty (centuries-old trees, natural springs with drinking water), buy local products and taste traditional specialities. Among the most popular destinations are Portaria, Makrinitsa, Milies, Zagora and Tsagkarada. However, each village is one of its kind, having its own, unique identity and is worth a visit.
